Some patients don’t need to be admitted to receive the treatment they need. You may have been referred to our Ambulatory Care Unit by your GP, transferred from our Emergency Department, or receiving continuing treatment after being discharged from hospital. Our staff provide patients with the medical treatment they would expect to receive on a ward.
If you need to rearrange an appointment, or if you are concerned in any way about your condition when you return home, contact us on 01733 677779
Our unit offers a high standard of multi-disciplinary care and we aim to provide a seamless service from admission through to discharge.
When you attend our unit:
We provide hot beverages and a light snack to patients who need lunch. Dietary needs can be met.
You can bring someone with you, but please limit this to one person only
Free transport to and from the hospital has to be authorised by a doctor or nurse (and only a small number of patients receive this). If you have difficulty arranging transport yourself, please speak to a member of staff
We treat the following conditions:
- DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)
- PE (Pulmonary Embolism)
- OPAT (Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy)
- Ascitic drainage
- Glucose Tolerance test
- Blood transfusions
- IV infusions
- Patients waiting for investigations e.g. CT, ultrasound
- Pleural effusion
We also provide an elective service. Patients attend for blood transfusions, consultant review clinics, as well as various intravenous infusions and procedures.
