Claire Smith, Performance Manager for EMED
"My current role is Performance Manager for Medicine & Urgent Care
I started in the Trust back in December 1999 as a bank x-ray clerk, working a few hours a week to fit around my children. In March 2000 I started a fixed term contract as Cardiology Research clinic receptionist. As my children grew older I took on an additional post as Cardiac Specialist nurses administrator, providing admin support to the Heart failure & Cardiac rehabilitation specialist nurses.
"This then led to a number of roles within Cardiology over the next 18 years. I was then asked if I would be interested in applying for the Emergency and Medicine Performance manager role on secondment which was a big step for me and out of my comfort zone having worked in Cardiology for so many years. However, I’m pleased I took the step now and am proud of what I have achieved.
"No two days are the same! I like the challenge that each day brings and like the fact that I can make a difference to both patients and staff and influence change for the better.
"I am proud to be a part of the NHS and although I am not patient facing, I am proud of the difference that I can make to patient care."
