In the UK, one in eight adults are carers – that’s 6.5 million people. 60 per cent of people will become carers at some point in their lives and as many as one in five secondary aged pupils are young carers. Carers Week 2019 is taking place between Monday 10 and Sunday 16 June and offers an opportunity to highlight the information and support that is available to carers who use our services.
The Trust has signed a Carers Charter to demonstrate our commitment to working with carers and supporting their vital role in the care of our patients. We offer support including extended visiting hours, the option to stay overnight, concessionary parking where appropriate and a sitting service from our chaplaincy team and volunteers.
Carers can also access support through Carers First (Lincolnshire)and Carers Trust Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Norfolk. Carers First (Lincolnshire) is holding an information stand in the atrium in Peterborough City Hospital on Tuesday 11 June, Carers Trust is holding a stand in the atrium on Peterborough City Hospital on Thursday 13 June.
