Congratulations to Irene Dunkley, Nurse Consultant in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy who has led on a national piece of work on the staffing needed to provide safe patient care in Endoscopy which has been published in the medical journal Frontline.
Irene said: “I am so proud of my contribution to this piece of work, this consensus agreement covers the whole of the United Kingdom and is a huge achievement for everyone who contributed.
“There is further work underway on an e-portfolio to guide and record endoscopy staff competences and will in the future become part of the assessment process for accreditation by the Joint Advisory Group for Gastrointestinal endoscopy.”
Hinchingbrooke has a long tradition of Nurse Endoscopists, Irene Dunkley was one of the first Nurse Endoscopists in the country and combined the role as a clinical nurse specialist supporting patients with inflammatory bowel disease both of these roles were innovative in the 1980’s.
