Peterborough City Hospital’s Breast Care Unit has received a generous donation of £17,000 raised by a charity Ladies Lunch.

This is the forth fundraising lunch organised by former patient Carol Collier. It featured Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole as the celebrity speaker and attracted 330 guests.

Carol said, “I wanted to do something to say thank you for the care that I received from the staff at the Breast Care Unit during my cancer journey. I never expected us to raise as much money as we have. I hope that this donation will help to improve the experiences of other patients using the service.”

Since the first Ladies Lunch in 2015, Carol has raised over £40,000 which has been used to redecorate the comfort rooms, purchase cutting edge equipment and invest in staff training. The money from this year’s lunch is going towards a new x-ray machine.

Specialist Breast Care Nurse, Claire Hall was a guest speaker at the event, she said, “We’re incredibly grateful to Carol for her fundraising efforts. The money raised over the past four events has made a huge difference to the unit and the care we can provide to our patients. Without the donation from the lunch we would not be able to purchase this new x-ray machine. We want to thank everyone who contributed for their generosity.”
