Residents invited to hospital merger presentations

Residents who use Hinchingbrooke, Peterborough and Stamford hospitals are invited to attend a series of public events in September to hear about the proposed merger between the two trusts that run the hospitals, and to give their views.

The events will take place at Peterborough Town Hall on Friday 2 September at 4pm, at Huntingdon Town Hall on Monday 5 September at 4pm and 5.30pm, and at the Priory Centre, St Neots on Monday 19 September at 7pm.

Lance McCarthy, CEO of Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust and Stephen Graves, CEO of Peterborough & Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We would like as many members of the public to attend these events as possible, so we can hear and address the concerns of the public about the proposal to merge.

“If we do merge our hospital trusts on 1 April next year, we will create one NHS Foundation Trust that will serve the people of Cambridgeshire, Huntingdon, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire. Because an NHS foundation trust is governed by local people and staff, anyone who becomes a member can have a real say in how their hospitals are run.

We especially want to hear what people think about creating local constituencies and governors who will represent the three areas surrounding Hinchingbrooke, Peterborough and Stamford hospitals. Anyone interested in becoming a member or governor can register their interest at one of these events. We are also keen to find out what people would like to call the proposed new organisation.”

Feedback is welcomed at the meetings as it will help us inform the Full Business Case before it goes before both trust boards at the end of September and NHS Improvement in November.

All events offer the opportunity to hear from CEOs Lance McCarthy and Stephen Graves and to raise questions. To register your place at an event, email: communications@pbh-tr.nhs.uk. Click here to find out more about being a member or a governor of an NHS Foundation Trust.

Editor’s notes
The trusts signed a memorandum of understanding in July to work together to develop a Full Business Case that recommends the merger of Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust and Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation trust on 1 April 2017.

If the recommendation for merger is accepted by both boards in September, the trusts will engage with the public again to develop the implementation plan by November 2016. If supported by the boards and regulators, the merger will be transacted on 1 April 2017.
