Hospital presented with a brand new bariatric wheelchair

Hinchingbrooke Hospital has been presented with a brand new bariatric wheelchair by the Friends of Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The chair gives people that need a larger than standard wheelchair greater comfort, safety and mobility.

The wheelchair, which cost more than £3,000, is motorised with dual speed controls. This helps the porters to move people around more easily.

The Friends of Hinchingbrooke Hospital, including Gwenda King, who regularly runs the Gwenda Cards stall in the hospital foyer, fundraise in many different ways to raise money to purchase much- needed equipment for the hospital.

Bev Balls, Patient Services Manager, said: “The existing bariatric wheelchairs are quite old which makes this donation so welcome.

“The new wheelchair will be kept in the reception area for patients or visitors entering the hospital to use. The chairs can also be used manually and are battery charged. A reinforced seat and back has extra upholstery which allows for greater comfort, and additional support in the sitting position.”
