Two members of staff from Peterborough City Hospital have been put forward for the Women Leaders of Peterborough 2018.

Women Leaders Peterborough is a prestigious awards event that recognises the talents and achievements of women living or working in Peterborough. The aim of the annual event is to enable women living or working within Peterborough and the surrounding area to experience the same empowerment and recognition achieved by the National Forward Ladies Award winners.

Dr Emilia Wawrzkowicz is a Consultant Paediatrician and Designated Doctor for Safeguarding Children and was nominated by her colleague Dr Katharine McDevitt for her work in championing the welfare of children within Peterborough and Cambridgeshire. Dr Wawrzkowicz’s career spans almost 20 years and has been called an inspiration by colleagues.

Dr Emilia Wawrzkowicz said:  “I was very surprised by this nomination! I am passionate about safeguarding children and am honoured to get recognition but honestly I am just doing my job.”

Julie Holroyd, Consultant Cardiology Nurse at Peterborough City Hospital was nominated last year by Anthea McKenzie. Julie was asked if she would like to resubmit her nomination from the previous year and include her more recent work, which impressed the shortlisting judges. Julie’s main role is within secondary care at Peterborough City Hospital, providing services to the local clinical commissioning group’s patient community. She is a cardiology consultant nurse at present but has a clinical background of a heart failure nurse. Her main role is to lead the acute Trust’s cardiology workforce ensuring that services are modelled to enable a high quality and equitable service.

Julie Holroyd said: "It's lovely to have been nominated for the second year running and that my consultant role has been so well received since introducing it to cardiology 2 years ago. This year's nomination acknowledges the work my role is undertaking with primary and secondary care teams, in addition to working with external organisations, such as project work with the British Heart Foundation."

This year the awards ceremony will take place at The Peterborough Arena East of England Showground on 2 November 2018.
