Helen Gregory, Consultant Therapeutic Radiographer at Peterborough City Hospital, recently won the Radiographer of the Year award for the Eastern Region.
The accolade was presented at the Society of Radiographers Awards which was held on World Radiography Day, and celebrated the hard work of those in the profession across the country.
Helen works predominantly with cancer patients on a palliative pathway and she has become the link between the Oncology team, Emergency Department, wards and the radiotherapy team.
Thanks to Helen’s hard work, patients now have direct contact with a named person who coordinates all aspects of their care with compassion, professionalism and expertise.
Helen said: “I am honoured to have won the award, mainly as the nomination came from my colleagues in the radiotherapy department. It is rewarding to be recognised for the work to improve patient experience and care across the department.
“I also see it as recognising the work and enthusiasm of all my colleagues in the department; I could not carry out my role without their support.”
Dr Catherine Jephcott, Clinical Lead for Cancer Services, said: “Helen is always a great help to patients receiving palliative radiotherapy and gives fantastic support to them and to their families. Staff and patients are reassured that she always has time to answer their questions and help with their queries.
“Helen has worked incredibly hard to improve services for our patients and she fully deserves this award. We are not surprised, but indeed are very pleased, that she has been chosen as the winner.”
