Student Placements

We work closely with the Higher Education Institute (HEI) to provide a wide range of learning opportunities, for anyone aspiring to a career in healthcare. These opportunities include; Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (Physio, Occupational Therapist, Dietitian Radiographer, Cardiac Technician, Biomedical Scientist, Pharmacy and Library services).

For student nurses, we have a dedicated Pre-Registration team who work closely with the Higher Education Institute to oversee all your training and education needs whilst in the Trust. We also have enthusiastic mentors who value teaching and learning from our students.

We encourage our Healthcare Support Workers to develop and grow their potential through training and education, and we provide the opportunity to access; the Care Certificate, NVQ 2 and 3, Foundation Degree as well as BSc Hons in Nursing to become the qualified nurse they aspire to this.

We have a Practice Development Team dedicated to supporting new staff into the organisation, through a robust Registered Practitioner Induction and Preceptorship Programme. The Practice Development Team is there to support new development and innovations in practice and to support qualified staff to grow and develop further to achieve their potential.

For Allied Health Professionals we have a dedicated educator who will support you through your training and placement.

We facilitate undergraduate clinical placements for students undertaking BSc (hons) and MSc (Pre-Reg) degrees in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics and Speech and Language Therapy in partnership with our local Higher Education Institutions. Students coming to us on placement will work across a variety of inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.

Students undertaking clinical placements are supported by a team of Practice Educators and have regular protected supervision time and opportunities to learn how to work as part of a multi-professional team. Peterborough Maternity Unit offers undergraduate clinical placements for students completing their BSc (hons) in Midwifery.

We work in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University to facilitate learning in practice. With approximately 5000 deliveries a year, Peterborough has a vast amount of experience in providing care for low and high risk women and their families, with this in mind we also offer short elective placements to students from other Higher Education Institutions as well as work experience opportunities for those interested in a career within midwifery.
