On September 25 it is World Pharmacist Day, and we will be celebrating the vital contribution made by Team North West Anglia's incredible Pharmacists.
Pharmacists are an integral part of our health-care system, and they play a vital role in ensuring you receive the most appropriate care to meet your medical need. Pharmacists are often the first point of contact for health advice, and they play a key role in supporting a wide variety of areas across our hospital sites, they do this by:
We are extremely proud of our pharmacists and so thankful for their hard work. You can meet some of our pharmacists below and learn more about their role at the Trust:
Why did you want to become a pharmacist?
I was always fascinated about how something so small as a tablet can have such a big impact on humans lives. I wanted to learn more about this and do a job that works with people.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I get to work alongside a lot of teams including nurses and doctors to directly impact patient care. I can advise on prescribing choices and make impactful interventions.
How does your role support patients and our local community?
My role revolves around medicines optimisation and safe use of medicines to ensure that patients get the best outcomes. I work closely with the prescribers to ensure safe prescribing, pharmacy team to unsure safe dispensing and nurses to ensure safe administration. I get to talk to patients about their medications and address any of their concerns. I can inform patients about changes made to their medication during their hospital stay and also communicate this with their GP and community pharmacies to ensure continuity of care.
What advice would you want to give to anyone wanting to be a pharmacist?
Go for it! It’s a very rewarding job and it’s interesting to see how impactful our job is in patient care. You get to work with so many multi-disciplines to learn new things everyday and share your knowledge.
There is a massive misconception that pharmacists are just for the supply of medicines but that is not that case. The role of a pharmacist is evolving everyday.
Anything else..
It’s pharmacist appreciation day, so wishing all pharmacists a Happy pharmacist day!
Thank you to everyone that makes my job so enjoyable and rewarding!
