JJ's nursing career began on 4 July 1985, when she set off from London to start her training — a decision shaped by family, compassion, and a desire to be close to those who mattered most. What followed was a 40-year journey defined by curiosity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to patients.
From early roles at Colchester General Hospital and Barts Hospital, London, to research and leadership positions at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and beyond, JJ consistently pushed boundaries, asked questions, and looked for better ways to care for people living with cancer. Along the way, she contributed to clinical trials, co-authored publications, developed training programmes, and helped establish charities that still make a difference today.
Later roles at the Lister Hospital saw JJ leading teams, improving services, reducing waiting times, and creating environments where both patients and staff could thrive. For the past decade, she has continued that commitment as Lung Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
JJ is a proud Macmillan ambassador, an award-winning nurse, and someone who has always put people first. Forty years on, her passion, warmth, and dedication continue to inspire everyone who has had the privilege of working with her.
Thank you, JJ, for 40 years of compassion, dedication and unwavering commitment to your patients and colleagues — you are and will continue to be an inspiration to us all.
