Lymphoedema

Our specialist lymphoedema service provides expert information, advice, support and treatment for people who have lymphoedema/chronic oedema.

Lymphoedema is a long-term (chronic) condition that causes swelling in the body's tissues. It can affect any part of the body, but usually develops in the arms or legs. Lymphoedema can be a distressing condition because of the physical issues it has the potential to cause, the possible restrictions on normal activities of daily living and the emotional trauma often associated when living with a chronic illness.

About our Lymphoedema service

We aim to support, treat and rehabilitate our patients within the constraints of their condition. The staff who work within the service are specialist practitioners and deliver:

  • Comprehensive assessments of condition
  • Development of individualised management plans
  • Information/advice on skin care, exercise and daily activities that may influence oedema level.

Our Lymphoedema consultations can be carried out via live, face-to-face clinic consultations, via telephone or via video chat. Domiciliary visits may also be offered for patients who, due to medical reasons, are unable to come to a clinic.
