Freedom of Information (FOI) requests

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) provides public access to recorded information held by public authorities. It promotes transparency and openness, and can help establish greater public trust and confidence.

All requests for information must be treated equally regardless of who they are made by, including but not limited to, journalists, researchers and members of the public. The requester does not need to give a reason for asking for the information and equally the Trust must justify any refusal to supply the requested information.

Please be aware that the FOIA cannot be used for accessing personal information about individuals. Information on how to access health records can be found on our medical records page.

Before making a request

You may find it useful to view the Trust’s Publications Scheme as the information you are looking for may already be published. We also publish previous responses on our FOI Disclosure Log at the bottom of the page.

What can we share?

We aim to disclose information wherever possible. However, in certain circumstances it may be necessary to withhold some or all the requested information.  If this happens we will inform you of which exemption is being applied and our reasons for doing so.

Please be aware that the FOIA relates to general recorded information and cannot be used for accessing personal information about individuals.

Information on how to access health records can be found on this page of our website: https://www.nwangliaft.nhs.uk/accessing-your-medical-records

How long will it take?

We aim to respond as promptly as possible and within the statutory deadline of 20 working days (i.e. excluding public/bank holidays) following receipt of your request, and/or after receiving any clarification from you.
