Work Experience

The Trust is committed to supporting young people with the opportunity to explore a career in healthcare.  We run a four day work shadowing programme on allocated weeks throughout the year at both Peterborough City and Hinchingbrooke Hospitals.

During these allocated weeks, students will be given the chance to observe a range of professionals working in a busy hospital environment. The experience will allow students to build on their knowledge and skills in readiness for their next steps into healthcare.  These programmes are designed for students in education and aged between 16 – 19 years old.

There are more than 350 roles in a hospital environment, with many of them being part of a wider team which work alongside medical and other professionals for the benefit of patients and the public. Some roles give you direct contact with patients, while in others you are part of a vast support network vital to delivering healthcare and preventing ill health.

We receive a high number of requests for placements, therefore we are only able to process applications from students who attend schools/colleges close to our hospitals.

The Step into the NHS website is a great tool aimed at young people looking to find out more about careers in the NHS. If you wish to learn more about the varied roles in the NHS then please click here.
