World Cancer Day 2026

Today is World Cancer Day.

World Cancer Day brings people together to improve understanding of cancer, promote prevention, encourage early diagnosis, and highlight the importance of access to equitable, high-quality treatment and care.

Our very own Cancer Team provide care and support to a growing population of patients living with and beyond cancer each year. They provide screening and diagnostics, treatment services, and ongoing emotional and practical support for patients and their families. The team are committed to improving early diagnosis, treatment and support for everyone and have enhanced services over the last 12 months by:

  • Launching the Lung Cancer Screening Programme for earlier detection and treatment of lung cancers
  • Providing a single Point of Access for patients to ensure equity of care
  • Ensuring patients are seen by the right team in the right place
  • Improving our data quality and reduce the risk of patient records being missed

World Cancer Day is an important opportunity to reflect on the impact cancer has on patients, families and our community. We are extremely proud of our teams who work tirelessly to deliver care that is safe and effective, by people who are skilled, supported and empowered while driving sustainable and equitable access across our region.
