Here is a first look inside Stamford & Rutland Hospital's brand-new Day Treatment Unit - which is now welcoming patients in a number of specialties.

Day case procedures at the state-of-the-art facility began on December 1, with 140 patients being seen and treated in the first week in areas including plastic surgery, orthopaedics, pain management and urology.

Other specialties expected to follow imminently once the Unit becomes established over the coming weeks.

One of first patients to use the service is Peggy from Peterborough, who attended as a urology patient. She said: “As a frequent visitor to Greenwood, I was a little unsure as to what to expect - given the familiarity I had become used to.

“However, this is wonderful; a much more modern facility and one which is great for patients and staff alike. I have been very pleased with the service and care, and I suppose I am part of a little piece of history by being among the first patients to benefit from this new Unit.”

Offering specially equipped rooms and recovery bays, the facility replaces the Greenwood Day Treatment Unit.

Day Treatment Unit Team Manager, Jo Baron, said: “As a team we are thrilled that this moment has arrived, and it has been wonderful to welcome the first patients over the past few days.

“Whilst many of the patients, and indeed the staff, have been used to the familiarity of the former Greenwood Unit - part of Stamford & Rutland Hospital's history - we as healthcare provider are so incredibly grateful to have such a wonderful new space in which to work and most importantly, give care to our patients.”

The Unit also offers a spacious and airy reception area and consultation rooms on the ground floor.

Mixing the modern with the traditional, the décor has incorporated Stamford's important historic and iconic landmarks with a range of wall art - adapted from photographs taken by local amateur photographer Dave Baxter - which are referenced throughout the building.
