Stamford’s new state of the art Day Treatment Unit (DTU) has been hailed as an ‘incredible facility’ for the town and beyond by hospital governors during a recent fact-finding visit.
The public governors, who represent patients and the public in South Lincolnshire, were invited to Stamford & Rutland Hospital to tour the site and find out more about current and futures services being provided to the local community and patients from further afield.
The DTU, which is poised to open this summer, formed a key part of the walkabout – with North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust’s Deputy Director of Strategic Estate Development Chris Howard (who hosted the visit) talking through the progress of the facility as it continues to take shape.
The DTU is being built on site of the former nurse’s accommodation block adjacent to the main hospital and will further enhance patient care for the local community.
It will offer day case procedures in three specially-equipped rooms, three standard-sized cabin-style changing rooms with ensuite facilities, plus six recovery bays. It is expected that the facility will be ready to accept its first patients by Summer 2025.
Stamford Public Governor Andy Ebdon said: “The new Day Treatment Unit is an incredible facility not only for the Trust; but for Stamford, the whole community and all the patients from further afield that are served by the hospital.
“The investment by the Trust in providing enhanced healthcare shows a commitment to the town and to our hospital.”
In addition to some fact-finding about the new DTU, the governors were also able to chat to staff and visit the Outpatients Department, Greenwood Day Surgery Unit and the John Van Geest ward facility - a step-down unit with 22 rooms.
Interim ward manager Tori Fergusson chatted to the group about the service the ward provides, the delivery of patient care and the commitment of the staff.
The governors congratulated Tori and the team on their recent Outstanding CREWS award - an internal ward assessment and accreditation scheme which aligns with the five Care Quality Commission (CQC) key lines of enquiry: Caring, Responsive, Effective, Well-led and Safe.
