Hinchingbrooke and New Hospital Programme Alliance Agreement

North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust has reached an exciting redevelopment project milestone with the national New Hospital Programme (NHP) by signing the Alliance Agreement.

The Alliance Agreement is confirmation that the national programme and Trust will work together to deliver a new Hinchingbrooke Hospital, which requires redevelopment following the discovery of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerate Concrete (RAAC) in 2019.

The agreement sets out the key objectives to work together with a clear definition of the roles and responsibilities, shared principles and a joined-up approach when making decisions that will be in the best interest of the programme.

This marks a pivotal milestone for the Trust, as it continues to build on redevelopment plans for the new Hinchingbrooke Hospital, which received confirmation of Government funding in May 2023.

Professor Steve Barnett OBE, Chairman for the Trust, said: “This is a really exciting step for the organisation and illustrates how we are moving forward in delivering our new Hinchingbrooke Hospital. We have worked collaboratively with the New Hospital Programme throughout, but this shows how we, as a collective, are working together to make our vision a reality. We look forward to welcoming our construction partner to join this agreement, early next year."

Morag Stuart, Chief Programme Officer for the New Hospital Programme, said: “The signing of this Alliance Agreement marks an important step forward in our shared ambition to deliver a modern, sustainable new hospital for the people of Huntingdon and the wider area. By working in true partnership with North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, we can ensure that decisions are made collectively and in the best interests of patients, staff and the community. This milestone brings us closer to delivering the facilities that local people need and deserve for the future.”

The New Hospital Programme has recently endorsed the Trust’s Strategic Outline Case (SOC) which will now go on to be considered for final approval by the Joint Investment Committee comprising NHS England (NHSE) and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). Work on a series of enabling works continues to enable construction to commence in 2028.
