Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon – part of North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust - has been awarded Teaching Partner status by the University of Cambridge.
The award – which follows an application by the hospital - runs from now until the end of September 2029.
It was granted in recognition of the collaboration and support given to the School of Clinical Medicine by Hinchingbrooke Hospital through the provision of clinical placements and teaching, and the commitment and contribution to high quality clinical education.
The undergraduate medical education team is led by Dr Anita Gibbons, Regional Sub-Dean and Consultant Gastroenterologist at Hinchingbrooke, who is supported by an administration team led by Heather Latham, medical student administrator.
Dr Gibbons explained: “The teaching partner status has been awarded to Hinchingbrooke Hospital by the University of Cambridge’s General Board, for the work we do with the medical students from the School of Clinical Medicine, University of Cambridge when they are on clinical placement with us. It indicates affiliation with the University and allows use of the University crest and logo for specified purposes.
She added: “This award recognises the excellent placement experiences organised by our two clinical teaching fellows and the team of consultants appointed as Undergraduate Specialty Tutors and Leads.
“It acknowledges the high-quality teaching delivered by this team, their clinical colleagues and our practical skills tutor. It also pays tribute to everyone in the hospital who welcomes students and helps them feel part of the clinical team; students have highlighted a range of staff who have helped them learn on placement including consultants, residents, advanced care practitioners, nurses, phlebotomists and health care assistants.
“All these people create the supportive hospital learning environment which has been recognised by the University.
“I am very proud of this status. Many thanks to David Mitchell, Director of Medical Education and Margaret Ann Beck, Medical Education Manager, for their support and to all involved in the education of our students.”
