Hospital partners with Citizens UK to boost patient involvement

North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Peterborough City Hospital, has officially partnered with Peterborough Citizens as part of its renewed commitment to engaging with and involving patients.

The Trust will work with Peterborough Citizens over the next year to support local community action to tackle health inequalities to support its mission to work together to provide outstanding care for the local communities it serves.

The partnership sees the hospital join Peterborough Citizens leadership group, alongside local voluntary sector organisations and education providers.

Deputy Chief Executive Charlotte Williams said: "We recognise the essential role that listening to local people plays in getting it right for our patients. Through the partnership with Peterborough Citizens, leaders across our organisation will be trained in the art of how to actively listen to and engage with patients, their carers and members of the public, and to harness the power of their feedback to shape our clinical services and service-level transformation.

“As a large and influential local organisation, as a major employer in the area, and as a provider of healthcare services, we recognise our role in serving the local community.

“This work is a core part of delivering on our new Trust strategy, which aims to provide safe effective and high-quality care and to support people to have good health.”

This partnership builds on work the Trust is already doing through the North Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Health and Care Partnership – made-up of local NHS, Local Authority and voluntary sector organisations working together to improve health and access to services at a local neighbourhood level.

A key focus for Peterborough Citizens is on quality affordable homes, supporting young people declared homeless to get the support at school that they need, and affordable travel for younger people – all themes chosen by local people.

Evidence show factors such as good housing, education and good quality jobs are the building blocks of good health and important protective factors in helping people to stay well.
