Restart a Heart comes to Peterborough

Residents of Peterborough had the opportunity to learn potentially lifesaving Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillator skills when 'Restart a Heart Peterborough' came to Cathedral Square.

The aim of the event was to help members of the public learn practical, potentially lifesaving skills, understand how to recognise a cardiac arrest, gain confidence in performing CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

The event featured multiple training stations, allowing members of the public to have a go at CPR using training manikins under the guidance of appropriately trained instructors, raising awareness of AEDs and demonstrating their use with training equipment, answering questions and directing members of the public to further learning resources and helped visitors feel more confident about taking action in an emergency.

Dani Phillipson, Resuscitation Practitioner said: "We want to make CPR something that people feel confident doing rather than something they are frightened of getting wrong. Our ambition is huge: we want to help train 2,026 people in CPR during 2026. Every person who learns what to do when someone's heart stops is another potential lifesaver in our community.”

The event will form part of a wider Peterborough campaign encouraging schools, businesses and community organisations to get involved in learning and sharing CPR skills.

"You don't need to be a healthcare professional to save a life. You just need to know what to do." she added.

Restart a Heart Peterborough 2026 aims to make CPR training accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of age or previous experience.
