One of our Trust's Emergency Medicine Consultants, Dr Dhakshinamoorthy Vijayasankar (known as Dr Vijay) has been honoured with a medal from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM).

Dr Vijay was recognised alongside his colleagues for their significant contribution to the development of Emergency Medicine overseas, through their work with the Royal College's Emergency Medicine Foundation Programme (EMFP).

For more than a decade, Dr Vijay and his team dedicated countless hours of volunteer time to improving and supporting the programme, which has become one of RCEM's flagship international educational initiatives.

One of the programme's defining features has been its ambition to deliver a single, shared Emergency Medicine training programme across India and Pakistan. While not without challenges, the initiative demonstrates how a shared commitment to improving patient care can transcend borders and bring clinicians together through a common professional language.

Dr Vijay said:

“This award is a meaningful honour.  It reflects the support and dedication of the colleagues, trainees, mentors and organisation I've been fortunate to work with over the years. The journey hasn't always been easy - balancing clinical responsibilities, leadership roles and education work has taken commitment and perseverance - but seeing people grow and services improve has made every effort worthwhile”.

The Trust would like to congratulate Dr Vijay for his exceptional achievement.
