Trust diabetes team wins national award for transforming diabetes technology care

Huge congratulations to the Trust's Paediatric Diabetes Service which has picked up its second coveted award of the year so far.

The team has recently been named winner of the Diabetes Technology Nursing Award at the Diabetes Nursing Awards 2026, celebrating its outstanding work in transforming access to diabetes technology for children and young people.

This includes delivering a major system-wide transformation in diabetes technology access and outcomes, despite managing a rapidly increasing caseload.

The Diabetes Technology Nursing Award recognises teams or individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation in implementing technology to improve care for people living with diabetes.

Nikki Dawson, Lead Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse, said: “We are really happy to get this recognition. It means so much because we work so hard to try and improve things for our patients in our area. It is about the wider team, it is not just the nurses but the dieticians, psychologists, doctors and all the other multidisciplinary members of the team.”

Earlier this year, the Team was presented with the prestigious national Diabetes UK Paediatric Diabetes Award for their work in this area; highlighting success in the percentage of children and young people (88 per cent) now using pump therapy and 99 per cent using continuous glucose monitoring, with consistent uptake across all ethnic groups.

The Diabetes Nursing Awards celebrate the outstanding contributions of diabetes nurses, educators and multidisciplinary teams who are improving the lives of people living with diabetes across the UK.
