At North West Anglia Foundation Trust Maternity services we can offer amenity bed services to NHS patients who wish to pay for the privacy of a single room during their stay with us. We have a number of single rooms (some with ensuite shower and toilet facilities) available.
What is an amenity bed?
An amenity bed is a private single room that you and your partner can use during your stay with us. Planning your stay in a private room will offer you and your partner a quieter, more comfortable environment. There is however a charge for these rooms.
These rooms have been furnished to an enhanced standard. There are rest facilities provided for your partner to use for the entirety of the stay in the form of a pull-out single bed, including linen. The room offers additional enhancements including a DAB radio, dedicated tea & coffee provisions and a fridge to store your own food and drink items as you wish.
At Peterborough City Hospital the amenity rooms have an ensuite toilet and shower facility for you and your partner to use. At Hinchingbrooke Hospital the rooms have an ensuite toilet and handbasin facility with the allocation of a shower in close proximity to the room.
During your stay with us in an amenity room you will continue to receive NHS maternity and neonatal care. There is no option for the provision of private care in relation to your room; the payment is for the room only, not any associated care services which will be in line with your NHS provision.
As part of the Trust's Silent Night Charter, patients in amenity rooms are kindly reminded that they share the responsibility for maintaining a calm and quiet atmosphere, especially during evening and night time hours. Please keep noise to a minimum, respect others' need for rest, and support our efforts in promoting healing through peaceful surroundings.
How much is an amenity bed?
An amenity bed costs £150 per day at Peterborough City Hospital and £125 per day at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. Payment is made via a cashless payment kiosk located within the antenatal department at Peterborough City Hospital or the Maternity Day Assessment Unit at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. We do not accept cash payments.
Payment should be made once the room is confirmed as available for use by the Midwife in Charge. Part days are not refunded. No other private facilities are included in this charge.
You will be asked to complete an authorisation form with your full details so that you may be provided with a receipt following your payment. You will only be charged if you use the room.
The payment kiosks are user friendly, touch screen devices that are easy to navigate. One of our team members will ensure you can access the payment at the kiosk within the relevant department / location.
Using the payment kiosk:
Step 1 - Select Private Rooms
Step 2 – Select 1 night (please note only 1 night can be purchased at a time)
Step 3 – Select Pay by card
Step 4 - Pay using the contactless payment device
Step 5 – Retain your receipt to evidence of payment.
Step 6 – Issue the receipt to the Midwife in Charge who will then complete the booking form and organise for you to access the private room for 1 night.
Can I pre-book an amenity bed?
All amenity beds are subject to availability and on some occasions may not be available. We are not able to pre-book them in advance as the situation may change and we wish to avoid disappointment.
On some occasions due to clinical reasons, you may not be able to stay in a single room. If you wish to stay in an amenity room, please speak to a member of staff on the day of your admission so they can advise you of availability and your suitability based on your clinical requirements for your care to be facilitated in one of our amenity rooms.
We will continue to prioritise the clinical needs of those who are admitted with us in the maternity service and on this basis there may be situations where the amenity rooms are not available. In addition, there may be situations where, to provide the care required for all of those admitted with us, we need to ask you to vacate the amenity room, in which event you will only be charged for each full 24-hour period you were able to access the room. This will only be if it is clinically indicated.
