Hospital staff raise a cup to boost breast cancer charity coffers

Brew can do it! Staff at Peterborough City Hospital have raised over £924 from a Bridgerton-themed Afternoon Tea to boost breast cancer charity coffers.

Sporting the orange, pink and whole colours of the Breast Cancer Now charity, Outpatients Booking Clerk Jane Edgington and her colleagues in the Outpatients Department served up a fundraising staff event fit for any Lady Danbury or Lady Whistledown.

The Afternoon Tea - complete with quintessential cups of tea and homemade cakes, games and croquet – attracted dozens of supporters from around the hospital.

Taking place throughout the month of August, Breast Cancer Now’s Afternoon Tea is one of the charity’s biggest fundraising events and has been running for over 25 years.

Jane from Deeping St James said: “Over 55,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK, so my colleagues and I are doing all we can to raise lots of money to help Breast Cancer Now be there for them through their life-changing support and research.

“My mum had breast cancer nine years ago, before I started working for the NHS, and she received the best care. It was after her diagnosis that I wanted to raise awareness and funds so that more people didn’t have to go through the treatment and anguish that my mum did.

“I’ve been hosting Afternoon Tea events for a number of years, but this is the first one that I have organised at work, and it was such a fantastic and well supported event!”
