Jo wins our April Star Award for Individual of the Month

April did not disappoint as the Star Awards received loads more incredible nominations that celebrated Stars from right across the Trust. Nominations for our monthly Star Awards come from staff, who nominate colleagues and teams who they feel have gone above and beyond in their role.

This month’s April Star Award for Individual of the Month winner was nominated by a colleague from within her own team. Joanne Attwell, Patient Advice and Liaison Service Caseworker, was nominated for the award because of her incredible compassion and ability to listen intently to our patients concerns and queries.

In her role, Jo regular advises and liaises with patients to ensure that they are listened to and any queries or issues are dealt with in a compassionate, responsible and timely manner.

Jo’s nominator highlighted how Jo goes above and beyond to support patients who use the PALS service, supporting patients who can be distressed or anxious when visiting our hospital.

Recently, Jo supported an anxious patient who needed to understand their treatment plan and what that meant for them moving forward. Receiving difficult or complex news can take time to process, and Jo was able to support this patient and enable them to understand what this news meant for them. Throughout this support, Jo ensured she was kind and compassionate for this patient despite the difficult situation, she really helped this patient.

Joanne also assists over 100 other patients each month with any concerns or complaints and always acts with amazing kindness and a smile.

We would like to say a huge well done and thank you to Jo. Congratulations on becoming April’s Star Award, Individual of the Month!
