Health Promotion

Our Diagnostic Imaging Team will often see you in your early diagnosis, intervention and treatments of various medical conditions.

Our Radiographers / Sonographers are involved with some of the national screening programmes which can be lifesaving checks for our patients.

timeline of NHS screening information

Dual - energy Xray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans

Dual-energy Xray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans A bone density scan uses low dose X-rays to see how dense (or strong) your bones are. You may also hear it called a DEXA scan.

Bone density scans are often used to diagnose or assess your risk of osteoporosis, a health condition that weakens bones and makes them more likely to break.

Bowel Cancer Screening CT Colonography (CTC)

Bowel Cancer Screening_CT Colonography (CTC)  part of NHS bowel cancer screening. CT (computed tomography) colonography is a test that Radiographers use CT scans to check the large bowel (colon) and back passage (rectum). It’s also called a virtual colonoscopy.

Aortic Aneurysm Screening (AAA)

Aortic Aneurysm Screening (AAA) is a way of checking if there's a bulge or swelling in the aorta, the main blood vessel that runs from your heart down through your tummy.

In England, screening for AAA is offered to men during the year they turn 65.

Men aged 65 or over are most at risk of getting AAAs. Screening can help spot a swelling in the aorta early on when it can usually be treated.

Breast Screening

NHS Breast screening uses a test called mammography which involves Radiographers taking x-rays of the breasts to look for cancers that are too small to see or feel

Anyone registered with a GP as female will be invited for NHS breast screening every 3 years between the ages of 50 and 71. You'll get a letter in the post inviting you.

If you're a trans man, trans woman or are non-binary you may be invited automatically, or you may need to talk to your GP surgery or call the local breast screening service to ask for an appointment.

Screening tests in pregnancy

Screening Tests in Pregnancy Sonographers (can be a Radiographer or Midwife) use Ultrasound scans to look for your babies development and to detect any possible medical conditions.
